ABSTRACT
The present Investigation was carried out to study the extent of heterosis and inbreeding depression through six generation mean analysis ( P1, P2, F1, F2, BC1 and BC2 derived) of five crosses for fruit yield and yield contributing character in bottle gourd (Lagenaria siceraria (Mol.) Standl.). The material was evaluated in a compact family block design (CFBD) with three replications during kharif 2019. The significant and desirable heterosis and heterobeltiosis was noted for fruit yield per plant in NDBG 132 x DBG 6, Pusa Naveen x DBG 5 and Pusa Naveen x DBG 6. Low to moderate inbreeding depression was observed in the present study as a whole. The observed and the expected estimates for heterosis, heterobeltiosis and inbreeding depression were in close agreement with one another for all the characters in all five crosses.
Key words: Generation mean, Heterosis, Inbreeding depression.
